SGP: India moet christenen beter beschermen

Subject: Religious freedom in India

On 15 March 2020, the Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI) published its 2019 annual report on violence against Christians in the country. The report reports a significant increase (12.5% from 2018) in violent incidents against Christians. This mainly concerns physical violence, threats and intimidation, but also the disruption of church services by religious radicals or the police. Violence continued in 2020, according to the EFI.

1) Are you aware of the increased violence against Christians in India in general and are you aware of this specific annual report?

2) What is your position on this violence against Christians in India and have you raised any concerns about this situation with the Indian authorities?

3) At the end of 2019, the mandate of the EU Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion and Belief ended. Has the mandate of this Special Envoy already been renewed or will it be soon? If not, what is the underlying reason for this?
